Managing hybrid teams

The essentials: live virtual training

Traditionally, workplace teams have been based together at a specific location, with colleagues collaborating in-person and around the same schedules. Recently though, this has changed dramatically. Today, many of us work regularly from home or across multiple sites, and managers are increasingly tasked with leading ‘hybrid’ teams, that combine both on-site and remote staff.

Hybrid teams present new leadership challenges. Critically, managers must ensure their teams don’t split into an on-site ‘core’ and a remote ‘fringe’ by attending to workers’ needs, their access to information, opportunities to contribute, and their levels of recognition and visibility.

They also need to respond to the different everyday productivity challenges faced by remote and on-site workers, as well as those who combine both styles of working.

This live online training session provides managers of hybrid teams with the skills to maintain a cohesive, happy and productive hybrid team. Led by an expert trainer and with a small and interactive group, delegates will learn a toolkit of practical management techniques and gain a greater understanding of their role in ensuring their hybrid team’s long-term success.

What participants will learn

This intensive session is designed to have maximum practical impact in a short time. It provides tools and tips around topics including:

  • Understanding the key challenges faced by hybrid teams
  • Using action-centred leadership to intentionally manage the task, build the team and support the individual when managing a hybrid team
  • Harnessing the power of short-term goals to motivate your team and monitor productivity
  • Managing through trust, objectives and outcomes
  • Ensuring information parity across the team
  • Building and maintaining relationships and social capital
  • Ensuring inclusiveness and involvement
  • Avoiding your team splitting into a ‘core’ and a ‘fringe’
  • Sustaining the team’s morale, positivity and purpose
  • Developing a flexible leadership style
  • Holding effective 1:1s
  • Identifying tensions and supporting individuals who are struggling
  • Helping staff manage the pressure of ‘presenteeism’

After the course every participant receives a PDF course handbook covering everything they’ve learnt on the course.

How is the training delivered?

This is a live and fully interactive training session. Just like classroom training, it is delivered by an experienced tutor to a small group, ensuring plenty of chances to ask questions and discuss experiences.

Using Zoom, Teams or your preferred platform, delegates are able to see, hear and interact with the trainer and other participants in real time. The session is intensive, and last about 90 minutes, equipping participants with a raft of instantly implementable techniques to improve their ability to lead their hybrid team.
