How does coaching work?
Typically, the coaching process involves the following:
A short introductory meeting– to understand your role, background and goals. The coaching process and confidentiality are discussed, and this meeting provides an essential ‘chemistry check’ – to ensure a strong relationship will develop.
Defining your coaching objectives– encompassing both short term and longer-term goals. Where appropriate your manager can be included in a three-way meeting at the outset and on completion of coaching.
Flexible structure– A format determined by your agenda and needs, but often 4-7 sessions lasting two hours spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.
An individualised approach– to increase emotional intelligence, raise awareness, reflect on strengths and challenges, and agree action. Coaches can draw upon an extensive range of psychological tools to ensure the desired outcomes are achieved (including DISC, Strengths-based psychometrics, 360 Emotional intelligence surveys, stakeholder feedback, and positive psychology). Action planning is central, and email / phone support between sessions is also provided to ensure continuity and progress.
Ongoing support– Added value of phone and email support that you can tap into as required.
The right coach and the right format for you
We have a number of highly skilled coaches, each with their own specialisms, experience and style from whom we will help you select the right person to support you.
And of course we recognise that it’s interpersonal chemistry as well as what’s on their CV that makes a coach right for you. That’s why we recommend an initial conversation to allow you to ensure you feel comfortable with the coach before committing to a series of sessions.
Depending on where you are, your needs and preferences we can arrange your initial chat and subsequent sessions to take place face-to-face, by telephone or Skype. Sometimes a combination of all three works best.
And in between sessions your coach is always happy to provide additional support and advice by email or over the phone.
Every coaching relationship is unique and flexible, but we’ve developed specific approaches to six of the most common focus areas that help to structure how we work with you.
